Kaiser Woods Park Plan

Public Feedback

In March 2019, 578 people completed an online survey about three concept designs for the park. In May 2019, a public meeting was held to discuss the project. Around 200 people attended to provide their input, ask questions and brainstorm ideas. All the feedback we received can be found in the News Feed below.

Critical Areas Assessment

Over the summer, the Parks Department hired a Consultation Firm, SCJ Alliance, to perform a Critical Areas Assessment which included a wetland and hydrology analysis and a geologically hazardous area assessment. After a preliminary site assessment, the Consultant recommended waiting to evaluate the site after hydrology has been present through the wet season. The Consultant will return to the site in late winter to reassess and confirm any changes in hydrology.

We will post the findings from the Critical Areas Assessment on Engage Olympia when it is complete around April of next year.

Access

The Parks Department is still looking into additional parking/access options into the park. We have been in ongoing discussions with various public and private entities surrounding the park. Our goal is to have information to share around the same time we post the findings from the Critical Areas Assessment.

Next Steps

After the Critical Areas Assessment has been updated, we will use that information, combined with the public feedback, to modify the park design. There will be an opportunity for the public to comment on the design once it is complete. This will be the final step before we finalize the design and pursue permits.

We appreciate your patience as we complete the required studies. Thank you again for staying engaged.
